The California Coastal Ocean (CA) forecast system uses a single-nest version of the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS) to produce 3 day forecasts of ocean conditions using the nowcast for 03 UTC as an initial condition (see CA ROMS nowcast page). The domain encompasses the entire California coastal region out to about 1000 km offshore, with a horizontal resolution of approximately 3 km and 40 vertical levels. Images based on daily mean output (days 1, 2 and 3) of surface temperature, salinity, currents and height (SSH) are presented here.
